TNR

9:30 pm at the Death Star.

The theme of this week's poster is not unlike last week's. Or is it? Either way, how about another story contest? Best one wins a pint of Darkness at the klubhaus.

Hopefully Cousin Adam will be there to tell us more about the race he has planned for us this weekend. And we will entertain suggestions pertaining to the newly constituted Dark Side Morning Road Ride. There may be ways to tweak it so that more can attend. But the general parameters remain fairly fixed. Tuesday and Thursday mornings before work. It will be fast paced. And awesome.

Looks to me like the Jr. Dark Lord is running over the Cycle Chick. Cobbles are too technical for some.

No disrespect intended to the the Cycle Chick. Or to the Jr. Dark Lord, for that matter.

None taken KK. Happens all the time. Serves me right for not getting out of the way. If the Darkness is entertaining a Tuesday and Thursday morning road right, they might consider joining a preexisting one that starts around 6am from Cambridge and Wellington and heads west to Headingly and back. It is brisk. And awesome. And if there is anything the Dark Side likes, it is awesomeness.

We're balking at 6:30. 6am is brisk, indeed. Perhaps too brisk.

If that is too early for your (ahem) delicate compositions, you are still welcome to join us for post-ride coffee at StarCorps at Corydon and Edgeland (in the Safeway mall). We're usually there sometime around 7:15 or so. It is almost the best part.

The poster is clearly a memento mori (“remember you must die”; an artwork serving as reminder of one’s mortality). In this case it is being used as a metaphor – sooner or later, You Will Join the Dark Side.

An alternate (and equally valid, coming at the time this poster does) interpretation is that the Dark Side is as inevitable as death itself and will conquer all. Morning rides in the spring, here represented by the innocence of feminine youth, must fall victim to its unswerving might.

Thanks for the invite, CC. But here's why it is unlikely to happen:

1) 6:30 is already immoderate. Tolerable by some of us, but still immoderate. 6am is impossible. We may be dark, but we are, as you say, delicate.

2) If we do something wrong, you'll make fun of us on your blog. We may be dark, but we are sensitive.

3) We like to be in charge.

Gianni is in the lead so far.

It looks like a corpse with an oversized head (not unlike our favorite corpse-like rider, Van Summeren)who is clearly beyond exhaustion from riding cobbles to the point of tunnel vision or no vision and simply did not see the young lady crossing his path. OR, it's just an entitled hipster corpse wearing a red toque for a helmet running children off the road with his new found bicycle entitlement....Don't be crazy! there is no metaphor here.

one more to add: 4) our love of "half-wheeling" increases our briskness....something that is apparently looked down upon within the legit roadies.

No worries.

1) The invitation stands for any such times you may feel adverse to moderation.

2) You know I will probably make fun of you regardless. But I will be gentle.

3) Duly noted.

Gianni is indeed awesomesauce.

By my math, we should have passed Cycle Chick et al this morning somewhere near the perimeter - us departing, they returning.
*Unless...?*

I was not in attendance this morning, and judging by the memento mori, it's a damn good thing.

A good effort Lyle. But there is a problem. A corpse is different than a skeleton. You will not unseat Gianni with lexical lapses like that.

The Big Frame said...

right you are....a careless slip-up on my part.

Adam said...

The poster is easy; it's about choices.
The skeleton is the rain that's coming.
The little girls are us.
The one in blue dress has managed to escape to the safety of the klubhaus, but just barely.
The one in the red dress has left it too late.
Which little girl are you?, the sleleton asks.

PS - You have to be present to claim the beer, I presume?

Brad the Impaler said...

The Skeleton represents the Dark Horde.
The girl in the blue dress represents the OCC running away.
The girl in the red dress represents Red River Racing being set upon and momentarily overcome by the Dark Horde.

What about the shadow?

You needn't be there to win the prize. But if you want to drink it, you'd be wise show up.

KK said...

It's the CRA, unemotionally steam-rolling whatever gets in its way. The shadow? It's a reminder that the same thing happened last year at this time (and the year before, and the year before that...). Nonetheless, the "little girl" continues to play chicken with the CRA monster.

It's a penis and a vagina. The circle of life. A dream within a dream.

Brad the Impaler said...

The Shadow? That's easy. It's the Dark Horde losing their collective soul in their bid for Manitoba cycling club supremacy; essentially, forgetting that they are exactly who they are. Or were.

But cousin Thomas already won...
