Spring Ride Open Thread

Do you need a ride? Better yet, do you have a ride to offer? Perhaps you need help deciding what kind of chips to bring for the Friday night chip buffet. Do you have a bike you are willing to let Lump borrow for the weekend? Let us know. Or maybe you simply want to let us know that you are planning to attend.

Post a comment below for these or any other Spring Ride related matters. We may not get everything sorted out. But at least we can say we tried.

Looking for the sock discussion? That's over here.

Leaving Friday morning, coming back after the ride on Saturday. Room for one, possibly two.

I also have two upright bike mounts that are a universal fit for factory roof racks with crossbars. They're nothing fancy, but they work just fine and are going unused this year.

If anyone wants/needs them, they are yours for keepsies.

I'll take those carriers off your hands if they're still available.

SOB! Yours! Want them before Friday? Give me a shout:

I already have my chips for the chip buffet. That is all I've prepared so far.

Pretzels are NOT chips.

The Dark Lord said...

Pretzels are geese. But somehow I always find myself munching on them anyway.

What's the beer situation? Everyone's thinking it, so I had to ask.

Cricket and KK, sitting in a...Golf. Friday 10:00-ish departure is the plan.

I need a ride Friday, sometime around 5:30 or later. Can come back anytime Sunday. Anyone fit the bill? Please?

Gianni said...

Mark - I can give you a ride out on Friday. Let's talk by the giant metal cube tomorrow.

Who is lump and what size bike does he/she ride? I can maybe help if he/she is in the 5'10" to 6'1" range.

Also: stupid newbie question: what is the deal with camping/where am I going? (profuse apologies for missing the Tuesday night planning session and much supplication to the initiated, etc, etc.)

The Dark Lord said...

No camping. At least not officially. We're in the chalet at Falcon Trails. It might be possible to pitch a small tent behind the chalet. But you didn't hear that from me.

Meet at the chalet.

Lump might also be referred to as the Mad Farmer. Or perhaps simply MF. I have a feeling the two of you will hit it off. I think I've got his bike needs taken care of. But there's a chance (i.e., if Dr John shows up too) that we will need another one. They are both 5'10"ish.

Me and Jonny G. Departing from the TNR HQ at 9am. Breakfast at Deacon's Corner A&W on the way out. Good times.

About the beer? That is a Presidential responsibility. Easily his most important. He's always come through before. No need to assume it will be any different this time. Breathe out KK.

leaving Friday after 3ish. Room for one full size person, and a Lilliputian sized person if they don't mind riding in the jump seats. And bikes.

Super sweet Colin!

The racing van has an issue, which I don't think I can fix before the weekend. Is anyone planning on driving out on Sat morning?

luke enns said...

i'm driving out after work on friday. i have room for 2 people max plus bikes.

Anonymous said...

I will be in Winnipeg Thursday night, leaving to be at Deacon's at the appropriate time.

I have a car, but I don't need to drive it if someone has room for me, or if someone else needs a ride Friday morning.

I can pick up from anywhere in the South/Central/NK part of town if need be.

penner said...

the beer situation is not yet resolved.
there was a rough count a number of weeks ago, but not officiall reckoning.
I left several messages last week regarding this with the "desk" and the "office" still no return call or contact.
I will continue my efforts throughout the day.

Anonymous said...

You're the man, Penner.

Anonymous said...

Cousin A, if I can catch a ride to Falcon tomorrow morning, I'll leave my car at Deacons. You could potentially take it out. Just a thought.

penner said...

direct from the desk behind the steel doors....
"$215.70 credit at the vendor"

I will secure the fruits of our labour tonight.

"have dingbat will travel"

word

The Dark Lord said...

That seems a bit low, doesn't it?

Either way, good work Penner. We love you.

penner said...

Yes, it was noted that the figures have been higher in the past. Not be sound ungreateful, on behalf of the FGBC, a thankyou for the credit to "the establishment" was relayed!

A vendor credit, regardless of size, is always appreciated.
I promised we would do better next year.

g said...

Isn't that only 8 or 9 12's of beer?

When is the Secretary getting back from his pre-Spring Ride camping trip?

The Dark Lord said...

Oh, and another thing: the beer situation may not be F'd. But Ingolf is. Reports of many trees down past Juan Eppstein's skinny dip spot. More walking than riding from that point on. Or at least that's what Liam reports.

The Dark Lord said...

Both of these threads are mandatory reading for all Spring Ride participants. There will be a test, the results of which shall determine who gets priority should we get to the point of having to ration the fruits if our TNR labours.

g said...

He get's back this evening as I understand it.

The Dark Lord said...

Tony, will you be offering another tequila tutorial on Friday night?

The Dark Lord said...

Just to be clear: there will be no gathering at Deacon's Corner on Friday morning. Head there if you like, but we are not all waiting for each other.

Kevin B said...

If work allows, I may attend the festivities on Friday - at some point, but leaving just before the fun really start. I have room for others, but would prefer to travel alone cause I really don't like any of you very much.

mhandsco said...

I felt that my tequila-ing was little out of hand last year and that I wouldn't bring any along this year. I felt a little like Scarface with my two bottles...

However, should the thread will it, I will oblige.

Cricket said...

the thread wills it

mhandsco said...

The thread has spoken.

Adam- I'm trying to make it happen for saturday- could give you a ride if it all pans out- may not know till later friday evening. Still need a ride?
Ding-bat has been sold- sorry KK.

mike said...

maybe some "Queer Beer" is on tap for the weekend?

Anonymous said...

any seasoned spring riders care to share good things to bring other than just my bike? how does the food situation work? to each their own or is cash being pooled?

The Dark Lord said...

You're on your own for food Mark.

The Dark Lord said...

I tried to find some Queer Beer this weekend. All sold out in the granola belt.

Anonymous said...

whats this about

The Dark Lord said...

Sorry Anon. It appears you were left behind last weekend. We will eat some chips for you.

penner said...

Your president and the secretary have just returned from the beer run. We met mike and "the new guy" in the vendor who had heard about us. He was a little reluctant at first to let us into the back to get our due, but came around quickly when he was informed that this is the way we role.

WE emptied the vendor of DARK.. took 3 Fort Garry Variety packs to brings us to the credit limit.

the secretary said...

Just one oversight in the brief response re food by the DL. Saturday eve is dogfest.

the secretary said...

well, it's now 11:43pm and all I've got ready is the goods from the klubhouse and I know where my bike is.

The Dark Lord said...

First things first.

Adam said...

Mike - Yes, i'm still stranded for saturday. I will email you with my number.

Anonymous said...

Adam, has it been decided for you? I am also thinking I'll go out on Saturday morning and could give you a ride. I'll be going home either saturday night or early sunday morning, although I'm sure the exodus will be less staggered than the arrival.

mike said...

Graham- manage a trois? Sorry had to post that- interested in a 3 way? again couldn't help myself.
maybe the 3 of us could combine travel arrangements.

Anonymous said...

Yep. I need to return to the city by Sunday before noon. I only have 3 seats, one of them being pretty uncomfortable. And it's cozy, but that seems to be the way you like it.

That sounds like a lot of stipulations. On the plus side, the bikes will all fit.

I'm open to logistical suggestions if your vehicle works better

If we do go three abreast in my truck, I promise to wear my new cowboy hat.

Anonymous said...

or I could come back on saturday night if that works better

mike said...

Graham,
Adam is out. I'm in for coming back sunday am. I will find a way to contact you.

mike said...

BTW, the real cowboy sits in the middle.

mike said...

okay, so my attempts at finding a contact number are failing,
how do I get a hold of you Graham?
