Alas, I'm not riding tonight. I'm reading. Happy Matt? But I am at least observing the traditional Tuesday Night Ride mores in a partial way by enjoying one of these. I hope it's a good ride, and an even better post-ride gathering.
In any case, it's time to update the Vuelta Pool. It was another bunch sprint with Bennati exacting revenge for yesterday's loss to Boonen. He keeps the golden jersey too. Perhaps more significant, though, was a crash that occured just meters before the 3 km banner, and which caught out a lot of the main contenders. The judges ruled that since it happened outside of the final km they would not be given the same time. Those are, after all, the rules. But it's bad news for Cunego (again!) and poor Andreas Kloden, who finished 2 and 4 minutes back, respectively. Sastre, Valverde, Contador, Leipheimer, and Gesink also lost time due to the crashes, but it was seconds, not minutes for them. As always, you can find everything you need to know at CN and Pez.
In the FGBC Vuelta Pool, it was virtually a photo finish. Arlene, Vic, and Jonny B all finished within 5 seconds of each other. That's as close as it gets with our scoring system, barring ties. In case you haven't noticed. The Tenor is stringing together a run of some consistently good stages. Thought he hasn't won one yet, he hasn't finished lower than third. And he only did that once. He's building up a bretty good lead. But it's still early, and there are still some scary mountain stages coming up. Hal has dropped out of the top three. He's replaced by Jonny B.
