menno cross

menno cross 08 is in the books. 15 riders took part in yet another classic at the cmu grounds. following the classic route the race was run for 35 minutes +1. bellow are pictures (captured by gianni who was too sick to race).

oops - big faux pas. thanks to deanna for keeping track of laps, gianni for taking pictures, allan for cow belling, cmu for letting us use the grounds, and all of those who helped with set up and take down.

pre race lap

lemans start

dallas heading into what used to be the ampitheater

dylan leading on the first lap

vic on the new wheels

half way through the race the hail started

at first it was more like snow - that changed and it turned into stinging pellets of death

Right on.

Any photos of the post-race feast?

sadly, no

post-race activities were well received. the plueme moos was popular as i served it warm. my vereniki and schmauntfatt need some work but people enjoyed it still. of course there was discussion among the mennos who attended the feast saying this is the way their mother did this, and this is the way their mother did that - would you expect any less.

i think this part of the festivities is a keeper

warm stir stick stout was the beverage of choice

Definitely a keeper. Sounds like borscht might have been a good menu choice, given the weather. That's two years in a row Menno Cross has been blessed with perfect cx weather.

I should mention that next year's Menno Cross will be a little earlier in the year--Saturday, Sept. 26, to be exact. It will be run during CMU's Homecoming festivites. This should translate into more racers and a number of curious onlookers. Bigger and better.

This has been cleared on the CMU end. Who's in charge of the cx portion of the MCA race calendar for next year?

I believe the person responsible of putting CX calendar together next year would be MCA road coordinator. To me it looks like a possible double cross weekend.

It was great to watch you all "suffering" through the weather and still enjoying another cross fest.

I posted a Coop blog avec pictures at:

Olli, weren't you the road coordinator last year?

Double Cross is exactly what I had in mind. Same thing for Altona 2009.

I wonder if it's not time for cx to have a coordinator of its own. I know it's traditionally considered under the road designation and all that. But that's not exactly how it plays out. Besides, I suspect coordinating the road races that actually take place on the road is already enough work. Then again, isn't that the we used to do it? Ian is listed on the MCA site as the cx race coordinator. We all know the MCA site is worthless. But the fact that it's never updated does at least give it a kind of archival value.

Nice photos Tom. That little bunker is harder than it looks. Especially when it gets a bit slippery.

I was/am still the road coordinator. I'm running for Provincial Program Coordinator at the AGM.

I don't know would CX need it's own coordinator since it's basically road mass start ridden off road. I think that 'cross race organizing group, co-op or something might be good and more beneficial than cx coordinator.
