like in hockey, there is often more than one assistant captain on any given team, dave weins should be considered for that position in the fgbc.
oh and watch the video also, it's cool.

Right on, Alberto. I was just going to make that exact same suggestion. It's okay to have two assistant captains. Like the Honorary Captain, he's got Menno roots. And then there's the fact that beat a certain LA in Leadville this summer. Super sweet.
He plays hockey too.
...and he likes pastry.
But does he like barley juice and JD? He beat the Honorary Captain too. But there's a reason he's only an assistant.
BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Dave Weins sucks!!!!!
You kids cannot just give away sacred titles because you had one to may stir stick stouts for lunch .
I'm serious here , if you make that dead beat anything I'm pulling my jersey.
Dallas " What about a real rider like T.F?" Sigurdur
I think some s'plaining is in order for Dallas's "against" vote
First things first,if k-bomb is a goner then I pick Barry Wicks (aka the clown).
Now onto the old man who nobody followed when he was an actual pro but now that he's beat two amazing pro roadies at a gravel grinder he's the bomb.
No I'm not buying it . If he hadn't beat two tour DE France winners (ya you hear me TWO winners) then we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
Now Thomas Frischnect thats a rider to Honor. He raced pro cyclocross when it wasn't cool and brought those skills to mtb racing where he won it all. He is know as a hard man in the toughest conditions and was cheated out of a world championship gold only later to have to given to him and the whole time he was cool as a cucumber.
Look him up folks he the real deal, not like the ergon selling false god you kids are mumbling about. (Oh and I think Dave sells hammer products out of his car)
Dallas " Even Susan Demattei thinks you kids are nuts for talking about Dave this way." Sigurdur
Does Frischknecht play hockey?
Got you with Wicks. Anyone else making a switch?
oh yeah,
I'll(we'll) take Jacques-Maynes as Kabush called it a season
and he is a menno.
dallas, your hanging with a whole mess of mennos and it is not always about results; its about intangibles that comes with being persecuted (burned at the stake - see the menno cross poster), humbleness, and a bunch of other crap that would require a bottle of scotch and a lot of explaining. trust us on this one - he is honorary assistant captain status.
okay, the persecution thing is really not that important. what is cool about wiens is that he manages to lead a normal and identifiable life and still kick some butt racing bike on the side. at least he is not sitting around and getting fat, so sometimes it is not about what you've done, its about what you are doing.
I think what Halberto is trying to say is that, just like the FGBC itself, the significance of actually riding a bike is somewhat muted by comparison with certain other factors. The origins of our humble collective were forged in a crucible in which hockey and post-game beer and chatter loomed rather large. The Secretary likes to point out that it was well over a year into the club's existance before many of our key members managed to throw a leg over the saddle. All of which is to say that while our honorary posts are limited to cyclists, their off-the-bike credentials are as important as their racing resume.
The only other thing that needs to be added is that this is a point that Halberto himself might do well to take to heart. I believe his record of attendance at the clubhouse on Tuesday nights has been rather dismal as of late--as the 9:51 pm time stamp on his comment suggests. Hopefully I'm wrong and he's had a change of heart.
oh the drama! don't let "those" mennos have their way Dallas!
Frishi is Swiss guys... he may not know it, but he's REALLY old school menno then.
carry on.
Kevin "I may go to a Menno Church and have a Menno last name, but I'm not admitting I'm a Menno" Braun
Floyd's got the Swiss angle covered nicely. Wiens makes up for the vacuum on the German/Prussian/Russian front. What we still need is someone to represent Flanders and the Netherlands. I've always thought of Ludo Dierckxsens as a potential candidate for that post, but would have to do a bit more research first. Though less well known, there's also Menno Vink.
No disrespect to Dave Wiens, but in defence of Dallas and Thomas Frishnecht I present this:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtb.php?id=features/2005/alta_rezia_freeride
I don't know how to make that a link but if you cut and paste it you will read about Frishnecht riding and keeping up with Hans Rey in the Alps. That is extremely impressive, as is the fact that he won the World's three times on ridid Ritcheys back in the '90's, won La Ruta a year or two ago and is still competitive now. He's got to be 40, no? So his palmares makes Wiens look lame, but I have to agree on the intangibles.
Cause if it were only about riding then we'd have to have Ned Overend in the mix, or what about Geoff Kabush? Or Juliana Furtado? Except she's a girl...
Brad
when the biking gets more important than the meeting, that's a team, not a club... and most certainly not the FGBC. "we are exactly what we are"
the secretary
anyone know how to say "vanilla gorilla" in low german? (it has to sound funny).
Kevin "i love stealing Dallas' little quote in his name thing so much, I added this comment just to do it again" "oh and BTW, I am actually a half breed (my mom is not a menno, but she is VERY thrifty)" Braun
I second Dallas' vote for Thomas Frishnecht.... and I'm not the only one!! Not that I count here... but if I did....
Frischi is the Man!
Thomas keeping up with Hans Rey!?!
I think you mean the other way around...no matter...
Thomas gets another vote here as he does like the beer, esp pre-race, and afterall, he is the supreme sh*t!!
Now lets all play nice and talk about something we can all agree on, like the MCA....
If I wasn't an asthmatic civil servant without an ounce of physical prowess, I'd want to be a guy who rides around his childcare schedule and does exactly what he loves where he loves to do it.
Kevin's Mom for Asst Capt!!!
Darryl, cash any cheques yet?
Paddy, what's impressive is that Thomas could keep up with Rey descending, which is not what one might expect, and obviously hammered him on the flats and the climbs which is what one would expect.
So now, let's talk about who makes the best beer...
Brad
this why we should abolish the hierarchy, even if it is only symbolic.
floyd, wiens, friski and halberto's mom are all equally awesome in my eyes
Jonny B for honorary uber-captain.
Allo, this iz Hans"NO WAY"Rey, I would like to set zee record straight: I am Thomas'z Beetch! Not the other way around, I am gude at only one thing: hopping. So to anyone who thinks I am zee sheet going downhill: YOU ARE RONG!
