super sweet ride! met at tenacious v's.
present: v, the impaler, colin, dr.mr., craig, patrick f (a new face... welcome patrick), the secretary, G joined us at the klubhouse later.

We all lamented that dr.h hadn't given us a ride route, because nobody had a specific ride in mind, but it was finally suggested we go to whittier and ride the river trail... along the river in wolseley, through armstrong point, back on the river to the forks... cool air, but dead calm. the basilica was stunning across the river and colin wanted to try out his new camera, so we stopped for a short photo shoot...
Through the figure eight a whole bunch of times at that memorial that i forget the name of again, on to whittier where it was darker in the trees than we expected... finally, a quick rip through our fave circle parking garage (which was actually a bit slower than expected because it's under going major reno's on the middle floors). the next pic was at the top there... (and i can't figure out why the lights show motion in the shot, but the riders aren't totally blurry.) I was thinking it looks like Tom is watching some crazy firefly, and maybe he is... but the rest of us couldn't see it...
Finally, a serious rip down Portage that even left dr.mr. out of breath (although he will definitely claim it's his gear ratio) to the klubhouse. Here is the shot of the long awaited bike racks. They look great, work great, but were installed with some cheap tapped screws into the asphalt, so an electric wheelchair will likely be able to push them over... but hey, it's a great start...
Most significant on the agenda was the 24hr race. Turns out it's looking good for the impaler to have his house clear for the event. That sets us up for a 7-8k loop on fairly regularly used walking trails. There was nearly unanimous agreement on it happening on the Saturday to Sunday of the Louis Riel weekend in February. (That puts us on Feb 14-15... another perfect opportunity to create family tension, for some, I guess.) The nearly in the unanimous was concern raised by a very close representative of the Editter, (the mafia boss of the Nordic Cross season) that the date simply might not fall in the schedule properly. That reluctance faded as we got into more details of the event... and a debate on what level tradition plays in this event (and in Nordic Cross in general). The question about the night's film grew into what looks like our theme: 24hrs of Coen. All the films will be played, and it may be possible to count one viewing as a lap... so, the concern of that being too easy needs to be addressed... one idea being that a viewing would need to be accompanied by a very short synopsis of the theme of the film... (different ideas on short from Haiku to 14 words (for the number of films) to the number of words that correspond to the age of the brothers, etc).
Anyway, serious agenda indeed.

Sweet. Nice rack, Vic.

So, if one was to simply ride the couch, stay awake through all 14 films and each counted as a lap, then based on my recollections of last year, they would post the highest number of 'laps' and win without 'turning a peddle in anger', to borrow a phrase from the voice of the Tour. Is that right?

This sounds a little suspect on a whole number of levels, not least of which is the following: If this is truly a 24 Hour race, shouldn't you be watching the same film over and over again?

easy... take your deconstruction helmets off... there is some tweaking to be done... it's not this weekend. the fact that we have a date and place is to be celebrated. First off, you make it sound easy to stay awake during these films...

I wasn't even wearing a helmet when I wrote that...
I was simply asking for clarification, not trying to pass judgment. I should have ended my comment with "Is that correct?"

Maybe points could be awarded/laps gifted for performing certain feats like a character in a Coen brothers film, dressing in character, memorizing a lengthy monologue from a film, performing one or more songs from the soundtrack to "O Brother Where Art Though", etc.
