Thursday Anticipation

1) Icebike?

We are confused. The interwebs, while non-committal, give the impression that it's off. At the same time, word of mouth suggested on Tuesday that it is going to happen after all. But still the interwebs are silent. Maybe it's all just a clever marketing ploy. Phoenixes rising from ashes and all that. It has worked before. But it doesn't really add up. Can somebody help a brother out?

2) Pride Cross

We are assuming it's off and are ready with a plan of our own--namely Pride Cross. Halberto has a concept. And he is planning to implement it on the first weekend in February.

3) Sloth Cross

We are still waiting on confirmation from the poosher concerning the availability of his palace. But it seems we have settled the matter of the film festival. It will be 24 Hours of Clint. We still have yet to select the films that will constitute the program. That in itself is a bit of a task. Fortunately, we like tasks.

4) Chasing Legends

Speaking of films, the guys from Gripped Films (Off Road to Athens, 24 Solo) are coming to town with their latest effort on Feb. 2. Our man in Harrisonburg confirms that these are good folk. The Dark Side will be there, even if only for the opportunity to hear the Manx Mouth spout off as only he can.

Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, Unforgiven and Bridges of Madison County. Anything on top of that is extra cream. Also wouldn't mind seeing space cowboys. He's probably old and begrudging in that one. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000142/

If BMC is screened, it was decided that it would be a mandatory lap and start at 4am. Anyone who falls asleep would DNF the entire race.

He's old in ALL of those movies (although I admit not having seen BMC). But I'm thinking more along the lines Fistful of Dollars, The G,B & U, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Dirty Harry.

And regarding Chasing Legends, you need look no further than the bottom of the poster ("Starring... Jens Voigt") to know that it's an instant classic.

I think Adam and Wayne are right on the mark! Gran Torino is a great movie though.

How about Kelly's Heroes, Magnum Force and Escape from Alcatraz (classics during his mid-prime).

this may be worthy of a road trip...

ALL the Dirty Harry films, (When he was at zenith of his powers) High Plains Drifter, The Eiger Sanction, Two Mules for Sister Sarah, Pale Rider, Heartbreak Ridge, In the Line of Fire, Every Which Way But Loose, A Perfect World.

Adam those early westerns were pretty bad. I just watched Hang 'Em High and it is pretty cheesy. We just forget. I think the later ones were better. He scowled way more in them.

BTW, this still includes a mandatory Big Lebowski lap, doesn't it?

This could very well turn into a 48 hour race. Good thing it is a long weekend.

Do not forget Bird. And Mystic River. Directed films count too.

The Dude puts the sloth in Sloth Cross. That is a given.

A Perfect World: the least annoying of all the Kevin Costner movies.

Brad the Impaler said...

Yes. You have to overlook Kevin Costner, but the little kid owns that movie. He is awesome.

Tom K said...

Yes ... limit Costner!

Get your butt out here Paddy!!!

The whole extended gang will welcome ya of course, but I might just spy on your 24 hr biking secrets (unless you go for the top-slother award? ... nah!) ... I've made the pledge to ride 24 of Falcon - solo (I'll need all the tricks I can)!

I'm in - I'm secretly doing 1 minute high tempo circuits indoors to prepare myself. Paddy, if you come I pledge to purchase you as many beers for you as you like, but they must all be consumed by you during the event.

I own the Dirty Harry quintet on DVD.

I look forward to watching these great works on the Poosher's A/V system which will make them look like the long-lost episodes from The Littlest Hobie.

I mean "Hobo".

When is sloth happening? Eiger sanction, G B + U and unforgiven and gran torino for sure. Space Cowboys too. Oh wait, never mind.

It will be Feb. 19-20. Unless anyone is willing to step up and make it a 48 hour race. In which case it would be Feb. 19-21. Maybe we could split the difference and make it 36 hours. Start at midnight on Feb. 19 a la The Most Horrible Thing Ever. Finish at noon on Feb. 20. Not only does this give us two nights to ride through. It also gives us two opportunities for the mandatory Big Lebowski lap.

That would be awesome. But I expect we'll stick with 24 hours. In which case, we start at 10am on the 19th and conclude with the manadatory Sals lap the next morning.

Either way, block off that entire weekend right now.
