camp/kamp/adjective [origin unknown]. Ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical.Lest anybody remain confused, last year's relocation of RRR's Halloween-themed race from Harbourview to Camp Assiniboia is far more appropriate than it might seem at first blush. Camp is not just a place where one might bed down for the night. It is also an aesthetic, a style. So camp it up, boys and girls. This is not supposed to be like other cx races.
camp/kamp/verb. Do or behave in a camp manner.
You could do worse than to let Susan Sontag, the so-called "Dark Lady of American Letters," be your guide. "The whole point of Camp," she says, "is to dethrone the serious. Camp is playful, anti-serious. More precisely, Camp involves a new, more complex relation to the serious. One can be serious about the frivolous, frivolous about the serious."
