Kaboom!

Just like that, there goes the Tour. At least for Valverde, Cunego, Kirchen and a whole bunch of others who had been touting themselves contenders through the first week. Turns out the Green Bullet is firing nothing but blanks. He grabbed an impressive win in Stage 1 but now looks to have peaked just about 20 stages too early. The Kid hasn't really done anything to warrant all the talk he has generated this year. And we all knew Kirchen's luck was about to run out once the roads turned up. CSC drilled it at the front of the peloton early on. Everyone assumed they were setting up to launch Sastre up the Hautacam. But in the end it was Frank Schleck who attacked and very nearly snatched the yellow jersey as well. I wonder what the mood is like in the CSC hotel tonight. Evans, Menchov, Sastre, Ricco, and CVV marked each other. This was fine for Evans, who slips into yellow with a 1 second lead over Schleck. But it doesn't really do much for the others. The top 10 in the GC now looks like this:

1 Cadel Evans (Aus) Silence - Lotto 42.29.09
2 Frank Schleck (Lux) Team CSC - Saxo Bank 0.01
3 Christian Vande Velde (USA) Team Garmin-Chipotle p/b H30 0.38
4 Bernhard Kohl (Aut) Gerolsteiner 0.46
5 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 0.57
6 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Team CSC - Saxo Bank 1.28
7 Kim Kirchen (Lux) Team Columbia 1.56
8 Juan Jose Cobo Acebo (Spa) Saunier Duval - Scott 2.10
9 Riccardo Riccò (Ita) Saunier Duval - Scott 2.29
10 Vladimir Efimkin (Rus) AG2R La Mondiale 2.32

CVV is still hanging in there. Sweet.

VN/ASO stage highlights here

In the FGBC TdF Pool, Tinker James' Farm Team picks up the win. He has Schleck and Vandevelde, who get him 155 points. Don't Stop to Smell the Flowers was second with 130, and Fuck It, Let's Go Bowling and Nothing Stops a Party Barge round out the top 3 in a tie with 125 points. No change in the GC today. But with Valverde and Cunego fading, Zed's Dead, Baby's days in the lead are numbered. It doesn't look good for Los Lobos Soundcheck Disaster and Mylie Sigurdur's Wheels of Fury either. But Team Runner up is lurking just behind these three with a certain Cadel Evans on its squad. I have to think they're now the favourites.

Well I knew my luck would run out and it looks like it has. On the other hand I still consider some of my riders capable of winning stages but unless Pereiro starts to let those legs loose my chance of a podium are gone.

Here are a few questions to my employees..

Cunego....... WTF? Do you even train anymore? Oh and did they mean PRINCESS when they said prince?

Lovkvist.... don't worry your young and this is actually an old mans game. Keep on keeping on.

Brusegin... Are you even in the tour? How many bottles can you carry at once?
Oh and I hear you stay up late washing bikes for the riders , is that true?

Arroyo... buddy, pal, you better work some magic in the mountains because I actually had you picked for the giro and then you went and broke a bone on me. Don't let me down two tours in a row.

Kirchen... thanks for the memmories , it was well worth it.

Lowe....not bad but I sure could use a little more umpf right now.

Fothen....... you'll be out of a job asap so you better start impressing the t.v crowd right now. I will give you some kudos though for your efforts.

Forster.....you also will be in the soup kitchen line soon so start flashing that jersey around. Oh and your not as young as you think you are.

Dallas " Cadel Evans getting teary eyed getting the golden fleece made me want to puke." Sigurdur
