Little did we know. When we were doing all that awesome cyclocross racing back in September and October, we were also involved in a covert gambling operation. They call it the "MCA Participation Series." And there are some sweet prizes to be won, courtesy of some very fine and generous individuals. The way it works is really very simple. The more you raced, the better your chances of winning. That is it. I think your number of entries were doubled for any race you did in the snow. Which would have been great motivation to race in the snow at the Belgian Club, had we actually known about this little rewards program. Fortunately, we were almost all there anyway. As we were for every other race. So I think it is only fitting that an additional clause should be added: every FGBCer should have his or her entries into the draw multiplied by two. Or maybe even three. We did, after all, dominate the cyclocross season on our way to winning the inaugural FGBC-RRR FGD Challenge.
In any case, the draw takes place at the MCA awards banquet this Saturday. It almost makes me want to attend. Check out the prizes here. There two series: one for road and and one for cyclocross. But nothing for mountain biking, apparently. Those mountain bikers are so cheap. It almost makes you want to quit racing mountain bikes altogether. Sheesh.

Does one have to be in attendance to claim one's prize? I can't make it to the soiree.
It would be dumb if you had to be there. So let's say you don't.

The work Olli did this year cannot be underestimated! It’s often not appreciated that when someone like Olli puts on a race they’re often sacrificing their own racing so others can.
I’m going to speak on behalf of both series though MUCR are the driving force for the cross series this year. You do not need to be present to win a prize. FGBC was indeed awesome, but alas no extra points.
I’m sorry our advertising wasn’t as good/timely as it might have been. Not everyone in the community shared the same vision. That's cool, there are many different visions out there, it just bogged down the process a bit. But look at it this way, now there's an extra bonus that some people weren’t expecting.
Road and cyclocross both had awesome seasons due in no small part to the huge organizing efforts of Team Woodcock (Olli and Chris Ashley especially) and Olympia. Anyone who has organized a race knows what you see on race day is only the tip of the iceberg. And there were all kind of other factors too numerous to mention; FGBC (Chris in particular), for example, who in addition to their two awesome cross races constantly drove the vibe no matter whose event it was. And that's what the two series were about.
A participation series is so completely antithetical to my usual high performance sport way of thinking. But that’s the whole point, how can we add to what we’ve been doing by opening our minds and thinking in completely different ways? How can different people get involved in non-traditional ways? Maybe there’s a shared vision there with FGBC, build excitement, build participation, add that to the racing, and the whole community benefits. One of the smaller shops recently came to me completely unsolicited and said 'what can we do to help' and dropped a thousand dollars worth of carbon bar and fork in my lap. No strings attached. Wow!

Sounds like you've been reading the special FGBC rulebook. All kinds of handy tips in that one. Just don't let the guys from RRR see it. They are cunning and definitely not to be trusted.

You mean the pickle dish belt? Now that its cover has been blown, we are officially uninterested. We expect a genuine butter belt next year, or we're pulling out of the Back 40 en masse. Jonny G has developed a winter training program based on winning that thing. But not for a pickle dish.
pickle dish? you have obviously never had faspa at my parents place. mom's got butter dishes with those fancy trays on the bottom. pickles get served in an entirely different small glass bowl, same as the jams. who serves pickles on a tray?
2010 - it will probably be something entirely different but you'll have to come to find out.
The FGBC research team--otherwise known as Luke--has determined that those are pickle trays. It is true, however, that crystal bowls are the preferred vessel for serving faspa pickles. We discussed this at the klubhaus last night.
An altogether different prize is a good idea. And a sure way to bring out the newly amalgamated, but still internally divided, Fort River Red Gary club. The Challenge will continue, but now it will be considered an intra-club rivalry.
mountain bike will be on board for next year. participation series are cool and what it should be all about.

maybe the type of plate it is depends on if you are east reserve or west reserve; gc, mb, or old order..
to me it sounds like fgbc is still sour grapes because the did not claim the butter belt
If we'd known pickles were such a big thing the series promoters could have bought everyone gherkins and saved a bundle.
